Summer Block Party was Great Success

Thanks so much to our hosts Darrell and Meta Smittle for the use of their beautiful park-like backyard for our block party.  A super time was had by all.  The weather although the weatherman said it was going to be triple digits was perfect.  Breeze and shade were all that were called for.  The setting was gorgeous with lots of food  and neighborly  fun.  If you didn’t make it to this one please try and save some time for the fall together before school starts.  A huge thanks to President Darlene Spears for organizing this event and making it such a wonderful relaxing time.

May Garage Sale Postponed

The garage sale was postponed from its usual date at the first weekend in may.  The garage sale has been put on hold until someone volunteers to provide a space for the sale.  Without a location the sale will have to be permanently postponed, and that will mean a loss for the association budget for 2011-2012.  If you might be interested in providing the place for the sale please contact Darlene Spears @ sdspears@cox.net.  ASAP.

Thanks for supporting your neighborhood!!

Earth Day Tips from The EPA

Today's environmental tip: Breathe easy! On unhealthy air pollution "action alert" days, wait to mow your lawn until it's cooler in the evening or early the next morning. You help reduce air pollution for everyone near you if you run gas-powered equipment, like lawn mowers, when it's cooler. You also protect your health by avoiding ground-level ozone during the warmest part of the day.

Neighborhood rehabbing this Saturday

Everyone has been mortified at the appearance of thos boarded up home on 66th East Avenue.  After a meeting at the site with District 8 City Councilman Bill Christensen, Tim Carter Working in Neighborhooods with the City of Tulsa and Officer Helberg, we were told that the City had sprayed and mowed and secured the home at the cost of close to $1300.00 and that they had done another assessment and have added it to the list to be sprayed, mowed and resecured.  We did ask if they could remove the boards off the garage door so that it didnt look so bad.  The answer we received was that if the door had been able to be locked they would have not had to put the boards up on the door.  We will continue to call the police if and when the people who kept trespassing in and out and removing the articles still left at the home.  The association will continue to work with the City of Tulsa and try to force Chase Home Finance to maintain the home.

We also asked if neighbors could come and trim the bushes and try to get the exterior looking like it had previously.  The concensus was that we could not remove anything that is still there on site but trash and debris.  So this saturday neighbors went and started a rehab campaign to get the house back into some semblance of order.  A couple of days prior one of the neighbors had gone and started by cleaning up the flower beds.  Wow that spurred the neighbors who came out on Saturday.  When you drive by you will notice a huge difference.  It still doesnt look quite like it did but it is starting to take shape.  Our neighbors the Felkins generously donated the electric so that the electrical trimmers and edgers, etc. would work.  Bags and Bundles of debris were hauled off.  What a great bunch of neighbors!  Thanks to all those who volunteered time, backache, and sweat to make it happen.

Next week, a delegation of the Board is going to go downtown to speak with the City Treasurer and the Sheriffs Department to find out what the hold up is on transferring the home to Chase' possession.  The association will update all residents as the earliest.

Keep your eyes open and call Police if you see anyone near this home.  We will continue to work to a resolution where this home can be sold and a new family can move in and join us in Sheridan Valley.
Thanks again to all the neighbors who put forth a tremendous effort on the behalf of all of us!!

**If you see something at that house that needs to be done... feel free to trim, edge or weed to your hearts content.

New Area Code in Oklahoma so Update your Phones

Starting this Saturday, March 5th, don't forget you MUST use the area code and the phone number to make a call in Oklahoma.  So make sure you update your cell phones and home phones to the complete number.   Starting later we will have a new area code with some of those being on the same street or across the street from you.  It will be interesting but do not procrastinate you want to do that now.. before you go to make that call!

It's a Great Day in the Neighborhood!!

Please Save the Date Tuesday, March 8th 7pm at Bethany Christian Church  for the next general meeting of the Sheridan Valley Neighborhood Association.  We will be enjoying a Mardi Gras themed meeting with refreshments. This is the time we will be requesting names for the upcoming elections in April for all Offices and committees.   There will be a door prize for one lucky resident of Sheridan Valley that attends the meeting.  Remember annual dues are not requested until our fiscal year in April,  so come and enjoy a mardi gras favorite King Cake. Make plans to attend and make your voice heard on issues in the neighborhood.  **If you are one of the residents where a new tenant or homeowner lives please drop by and personally invite them to attend.

If you would like more information on the elections or the posts open please contact Secretary Jill Probst @ jprobst@cbtulsa.com.
